No more waiting around with fingers crossed looking toward the blue Lake Tahoe sky, because snow is here and we couldn’t be more excited! With snow already fallen, things are looking up for a promising 2013 - 2014 winter season. Today marks the first significant snowfall thus far for the season, and residents and travelers feel hopeful that this winter season will have a heavier snowfall than the last two winters.

Today’s snowfall is predicted to die down in the next few hours, though gusts and flurries are thought to continue into the evening. With a winter weather advisory in effect through noon today for the greater Truckee/Tahoe area, this exciting first show of snow has Lake Tahoe in a frenzy.

The snow began last night, and Lake Tahoe residents woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. Snowfall up to 6 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet, and 6 inches at lake level according to the National Weather Service in Reno. High today should reach 47 degrees, and the snow should taper off this afternoon. For a better look at the forecast, check the Lake Tahoe weather page.

While the rest of the week looks to be sunny and clear, this first snow marks the nearing winter season, and has snow fanatics looking excited for the upcoming snow season. It’s time to dust off those winter coats and start getting ready for an active 2013 - 2014 snow season.
