7 Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in Lake Tahoe

If you are lucky enough to be in Lake Tahoe this Memorial Day Weekend, check out these fun festivities happening around town.

For some, Memorial Day Weekend is a time to relax, travel, spend time with family and friends and enjoy a few extra days off from work or school. For others it is the unofficial start of long summer nights and parties.

Whether you like being outdoors, wanna catch a concert or just find a bar with a good happy hour menu, Lake Tahoe has all that and more for people looking to escape and have some fun this weekend!

Friday kicks off Opening Day At The Lake, a weekend long celebration of Lake Tahoe’s best dining, shopping and activities happening around the lake.

Saturday, May 26

  • O’Neill Cup Stand Up Paddleboard Race: Get out your paddleboards and head over to Donner Lake. This five-mile race is a fun and friendly competition for women and men of all experience levels. Race day registration is $55. SUP Race starts at 9am. 
  • Free Live Music Event: The West Shore Cafe will be opening its doors this weekend with free live jazz music from 2pm to 5pm in their new Lakeside Lounge. This lively lakefront cafe hosts tons of summertime events including live music Friday and Saturday nights and the popular Moonlight Mojito Cocktail Contest. 
  • Hellman-Ehrman Mansion and Vikingsholm Castle: Some of Lake Tahoe’s most beautiful and historic landmarks are now open! These are great places to visit during the daytime. Catch a tour at Vikingsholm Castle, Hellman-Ehrman Mansion or Fannette Island in Emerald Bay. Sugar Pine Point State Park is a large campsite with plenty of great picnic spots and scenic hiking and biking trails. 
  • BARmuda Memorial Weekend Party: This is an all night affair filled with plenty of music and tequila specials at three of the best bars in Tahoe City! The party begins at 8pm at Jake’s on the Lake with singer K*DOLL. If 80’s rock and roll is more your scene, head over to Hacienda del Lago for their 80’s Glam Rock Show and 80’s dress contest. And DJs Gurbtron and Tre Tuna will be at Lakeside from 10pm to 2am.

Sunday, May 27

  • Tahoe Maritime Museum: Located on the West Shore, Tahoe Maritime Museum, features tons of local maritime history and exhibits. The museum will be opening its doors at 10am and host family friendly festivities all day. This weekend’s featured exhibit is the “Tahoe Twenties: A Story of Boats, Booze & Business,” which displays maritime vessels and society issues set in the 1920s. 
  • Mike Brown Memorial Splash In! This is family friendly event kicks off early with a pancake breakfast. In honor of Mike Brown, a local aviator and seaplane enthusiast, folks will enjoy a beach party and barbecue, followed by a Parade of the Seaplanes at 1pm. 
  • Bar of America Presents James Carlson and Steady Hand: This restaurant is known for its live music, good food and strong cocktails. Sunday night will feature the rich harmonies of James Carlson and the Steady Hand. Show starts at 9pm.

Memorial Day Weekend in Lake Tahoe offers plenty of fun outdoor activities, live entertainment and grand openings. Get out and enjoy your favorite parks,  beaches and bars this weekend!
