You may obtain a Public California Marriage License at any county seat. The prices and hours of each office varies from county to county. You must be at least 18 years old and have a picture I.D. such as a driver's license or passport. If this is a second marriage and you have been divorced less than two years, you must bring proof of termination of your last marriage. (If you have been divorced more than two years then you will need the exact date of the termination.) The license is good for 90 days.

In Placer County the cost is $47.00 and for an additional fee of $12.00 you can receive a certified copy. In Tahoe City you can obtain a license at the;

Confidential License must be purchased in the county where the marriage occurs. Cost differs in each county. Can be issued by many chapels. These licenses are different from public licenses in that no information can be released without the written consent of at least one of the married partners. The fee is $75 which includes a certified copy of the license. These licenses are valid only in the county in which they are issued. No witnesses are required. This is the license issued with the elopement option.
