Our Ski and Board School programs promote active learning by emphasizing movement throughout the lesson without a lot of passive listening. First time through beginning intermediate group lessons are structured around breaking through to the next skill level and expanding terrain options. Our group lesson packages give you the Best Bang for the Buck in the Sierra.

Kirkwood was named by USA Today as one of the top ten resorts in the nation to learn to ski. Through the end of the season, weekend instruction will take place at Timber Creek on the region's widest, most gentle slopes, away from fast moving skiers and riders.

This lesson takes place at Timber Creek and is designed for those who can control their speed in a straight line and are beginning to make turns. During this class you will learn to turn when and where you want to with confidence and will develop the skills to ski or ride on intermediate (blue) trails.
This lesson meets at Timber Creek and is designed for those who are comfortable linking wedge christies/skidded turns on lower intermediate terrain.

A private lesson is the fastest and easiest way to develop new skills or find comfort on more difficult terrain. One-on-one instruction is available for all levels, all ages, skiers or snowboarders. Guests can save by signing up for the early bird or late afternoon privates.

| The Mighty Mountain Children's Ski and Snowboard School, for skiers ages 4 to 12 or snowboarders ages 7 to 12, combines supervised fun with ski development on the slopes. Youngsters have a great time with others their own age while developing their skills and exploring Kirkwood's unique terrain. The customized program features its own terrain garden, terrain parks and surface lifts. Children are grouped according to age and ability. Parents are invited to choose between leaving their children after registration (as early as 8:30am) or they can ski or ride with their children until the lesson begins at 10am. Full day programs include lunch. Private lessons are available for children ages 3 to 12. Packages include lift ticket, lesson & rental equipment. |

Special programs for children, along with everyday low-ticket prices, place Kirkwood at the top of the list when it comes to family-friendly resorts. Kirkwood's Children's Ski and Board School is accessed directly from the Timber Creek parking lot adjacent to Chair #9 (Bunny) and includes a front door drop-off area. Parents can easily access the rest of the mountain from Chair #7 (Hole ‘N’ Wall), located at Timber Creek.

Kirkwood’s Mini-Mountain Child Care Center is a licensed facility for children ages 2 to 6. The center features professional supervision and indoor and outdoor activities with a convenient new slopeside location across from Red Cliffs Lodge.
Children have their own trail and customized lessons at Kirkwood Cross Country’s “Kiddie Kilometer.” The trail features life size cutouts of forest animals and flip up signs that show an animal track on the outside and a drawing of the animal when flipped up.
KSEF is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle through skiing and snowboarding. Athletes train with certified coaches who instill a love for the sport and the mountains while setting up specific programs to maximize the athletes' full potential. Call (209) 258-5733 for details.
After their legs wear out from a day on the slopes, kids can head over to the tubing park to extend their adventures into the evening. The park is located near Chair #1 (Snowkirk). The handle tow provides effortless transportation up the tubing hill. Tubes are provided.
Village Ice Rink
Kirkwood's new Village Ice Rink is located at plaza's edge.
The outdoor rink is open daily throughout the winter, weather permitting, from Noon - 6 PM on Saturdays and Holidays, and midweek from 2PM - 5PM.
